A recent graduate of Southwestern was killed Friday while she tried to help a family who had been involved in a rollover accident along I-40 near Yukon.
The Oklahoma Highway Patrol said that two people were killed in the accident — 43-year-old David Vallerand of Okarche and 23-year-old Kaylee Hamilton of Fort Cobb. Hamilton had just graduated from SWOSU with an athletic training degree.
According to News9.com, the incident occurred Friday evening. Around 7:25 p.m. Friday, emergency crews were called to the scene of a rollover crash on westbound I-40 and Frisco in Yukon.
According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, three people stopped to help the victims of that crash when a second rollover occurred in the same location. The car in the second rollover struck and killed Vallerand and Hamilton, according to the OHP. The conditions of the family involved in the first accident, the driver of the second vehicle, and third Good Samaritan are unknown.
Family members told news9.com that Hamilton was working toward certification to enter nursing school, and hoped to become a trauma nurse.
Her family has created the Kaylee Hamilton Helping Hands scholarship to be awarded to a high school senior going into the medical field.
