Among other noteworthy dates on the spring calendar are upcoming performances from the SWOSU Theatre Department.
The Theatre Department started rehearsals Wednesday night for “You’re A Good Man, Charlie Brown”, which opens March 2. The musical features one of the largest sets ever to be built in the Hilltop Theatre. The play will run for four days: Thursday, March 2 through Saturday, March 4 at 7:30 nightly and Sunday, March 5 at 2 p.m.
Auditions for this production were held last semester.
“We wanted people to look over scripts and music before we went on break, which is something we have never done before,” said Director Steve Strickler.
Looking beyond, “You’re A Good Man Charlie Brown” Strickler also gave some insight into other plays being performed by the department.
“After spring break, we will audition for our student-directed 10 minute plays” he said. “Every other semester we offer play directing and production and we match those students with students in the lighting design class and they produce a play for a final project.”
These plays will be performed at 7 p.m. April 20 and 21 and will feature approximately 10 directors and 11 lighting designers.
Performances will be held at the SWOSU Hilltop Theatre. The plays will be open to the public as well as SWOSU students. Students can see the performances free with proof of student ID. Tickets can be reserved by calling the SWOSU Hilltop Theatre Box Office at 580-775-6046.
